Deliverables for LinK-IT

STI Santa Rosa

Based at the STI Santa Rosa today has been a day of data analysis, use case definition and financial modelling.

the IBMCSC LinK-IT team have been working hard to plan what we need to do in the next 3 weeks.  Tomorrow we meet with our host Dr Antonio Del Carmen to review our plan.

Business leaders in Metro Manilla are focused!

We have had the pleasure of meeting several people representing local education and businesses in Santa Rosa and Laguna region.

Gardenia make bread and they make a lot of bread!  A tour of their impressive factory which produces thousands of loaves every hour and meeting with gave us a great insight into how organisations operate in the Laguna region.

De La Salle University has over 16,000 undergraduate students and the Science & Technology Complex of the university is located in impressive buildings set in 50 hectares of natural countryside in Laguna just outside Santa Rosa.  They have plans for significant growth so they can continue to develop individuals who can bring innovative ideas to local businesses (such as located in the local Laguna Technopark) and who can start new businesses based on their research during their time at the University.

Panasonic are one of the many engineering organisations who have located in the Laguna Technopark.  They produce the components that go into many of the products we use today such as DVD players, Blu-ray players and disk drives.

The input, experience and ideas from all the people we have met will help us to design a better Laguna Industry Network for Knowledge, Innovation & Technology Technical Business Incubator.

LinK-IT

Our challenge is to develop the plan and launch a business technical incubator that offers help to small businesses and start ups who want to commercialise their products and services.

Dr Antonio Del Carmen is a wonderful host and his passion for helping small local business is infectious!  His vision is that we can help small and medium projects or businesses to commercialise and become sustainable businesses.  These growing businesses will create more local jobs, improve the quality of local outputs and increase local tax revenues so others can be helped.

It is a great challenge – lots to do in the next 4 weeks!

Kick off meeting

What a great and busy day.  Every single person we met in City Hall (and we met hundreds of people) had a huge smile and waved and said “Hello”.  A great place to work.

Today we met the Mayor of Santa Rosa.

Arlene Arcillas

The honourable Mayor Arlene Arcillas has been very busy in her 8 years as Mayor.  There have been many positive leaps in equality and growth in Santa Rosa.

There are still many people in poverty but there is increasing growth, education, healthcare, infrastructure, social support and sense of hope and a bright future for Santa Rosa.

And everyone smiles.

Typhoon Rammasun

The effects of the recent typhoon Rammasun are visible from the moment you leave the airport all the way through Manila and on down to Santa Rosa.  But everywhere people are doing what they can to tidy up.

On the way

The taxi ride from the airport was dynamic(!), but every beep and hoot was accompanied by a warm and happy smile. Taxi driving Philippino style!
